DENTAL CASE STUDY
UNDERWATER PEDIATRIC DENTAL OFFICE
THE CLIENT
Dr. Mykhalus is a pediatric dentist in London, UK. She owns 2 practices, one that is focused on pediatric patients (view this jungle themed office), and the underwater themed office featured here, that serves the whole family including orthodontic services.
THE GOAL
She saw a lack of quality pediatric dental care for her own kids and wanted to make a place where kids would associate dentistry with fun and happiness. She decided to invest in a practice located in the heart of London. Her goal was to stand out with both decor and technology in order to grow her business and attract patients.
SCOPE OF WORK
We collaborated closely with Dr. Mykhalus and her interior designer from the very first sketch to create the theming for this new build. Our artists designed detailed underwater scenes—balancing clinical flow with playfulness. Once approved, our fabrication team sculpted custom 3D characters, engineered a pirate ship play unit with an extremely durable pirate monkey. Because this project was located in the United Kingdom, additional planning was required to coordinate ground transport across North America and overseas freight logistics. Every piece was pre-fit, crated, and documented to ensure a smooth international installation. The final themed environment supports Dr. Mykhalus’s vision for innovation in UK pediatric dentistry—combining function, imagination, and long-term durability.
Ground Floor
- Foyer – ocean murals and 3D swimming characters
- Reception – desk cladding with murals, prize tower, and 3D whale
- Corridor to Kids Area – ocean murals
- Kids Area Waiting Room – pirate ship play structure featuring gaming tablets & slide, beach murals
- Stairwell – portholes with graphic inserts
1st Floor
- Treatment Room – murals
2nd Floor
- Brushing Stations and Hallway – hippo, shark, alligator brushing mirrors, murals
- Theater Room – dolphin photo op, murals
THE OUTCOME
Imagination Design Studios (IDS) worked with Dr. Mykhlaus and her interior designer to remodel her existing location. With IDS theming, the office was transformed into a pediatric dental “theme park” for kids.
From Dr. Mykhalus – “We are definitely recognized as a very cool and innovative office with a different approach to dentistry – which is often seen as a very boring subject in the UK.”
The transformation was a success, gaining the office a huge amount of attention.
“When we opened our doors for the first time we had no patients, but now our patient numbers are growing day-by-day and we are well on the way to achieving our dream.”
Each floor imbues a happy and stress-free environment through the use of interactive kids’ areas – a pirate ship play structure, a dolphin photo op in the theater, an educational brushing station, and an engaging prize tower after a successful appointment.
“Patients love coming for their appointments and referring clinicians are happy with our service overall, so theming is one of the things that differentiates us from other London dentists.”
The IDS team has now completed 3 offices for Dr. Mykhalus, including a jungle and beach pediatric dental office, with more in production.

JUNGLE PEDIATRIC MEDICAL CLINIC
THE CLIENT
Brian Wright and his wife Sheryl Wright, a family nurse practitioner, own multiple family practice medical clinics (view their first underwater themed office here) throughout the southern US that treat patients of all ages with acute and chronic diseases.
THE GOAL
Their goal was to attract new children and their families to their clinic by adding theming to the pediatric areas. They specifically wanted to draw attention to their building, which is flanked by an elementary school on one side and the highway on the other.
SCOPE OF WORK
For Brian and Sheryl Wright’s clinic renovation, IDS began with site photos and floor plans of the existing building exterior to determine sightlines from the highway. We sketched multiple exterior landmark options, landing on the whimsical alligator-and-giraffe duo. Inside, our designers rendered a cohesive jungle theme that flowed from reception to exam rooms. Our illustrators ensured every exam mural aligned perfectly with medical equipment.
Exterior:
- Landmark – 3D sculpture of an alligator holding up a giraffe
- Signage – 3D sculpture of a hippo on pylon sign and with parrot hanging sign directing patients to pediatrics
Interior:
- Reception Area – jungle landscape murals around the entire waiting area, outhouse mural bathroom doors
- Reception Desk – sculpted rock towers, lemurs, and welcome sign
- Centerpiece Seating – sculpted treehouse, benches with custom upholstery
- Gaming Area – sculpted rock gorilla head, 2X gaming tablets
- Ceiling Decor – 3D elephant, snake, and tarsier characters on a zipline attached to the ceiling
- Pediatric Exam Hallways – wall murals
- 2 Triage Areas – wall murals
- 12 Exam Rooms – wall murals
THE OUTCOME
Due to the ideal location and impact of the exterior pieces, they were able to successfully draw attention to the clinic. While the eye-catching exterior brought people in, the interior theming kept them coming back.
From Sheryl Wright – “As a result of the theming, marketing has definitely improved. Even if patients cannot remember the name of the clinic, they know where we are and that our clinic is the fun place for kids to come play while they are waiting for their appointment.”
“Telling patients it is the clinic with the giraffe and alligator is an easy visual landmark to help them find us. This has helped get new patients through the doors.”
This clinic has a separate entrance just for pediatric patients, with its own reception, waiting area, and exam rooms. With this layout, they were able to create a magical, dedicated space just for children without theming the adult portions of his clinic.
“A parent told me that their son wanted to come get a shot so he could play in the waiting room. That’s a definite positive return on investment.”

SAFARI PEDIATRIC MEDICAL CLINIC
THE CLIENT
Dr. Julie Russo and husband James Russo own and run a pediatric dental office in their home state of Florida. Dr. Russo also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology, so her love of animals is reflected in her choice of amazing office safari decor.
THE GOAL
Dr. Russo wanted to have the office of her dreams, sparing no expense. Her goal was to have an office that she was excited to go to every day – a place where she would spend most of her life. And of course, she wanted to share that feeling of excitement with her patients. She is dedicated to making sure that kids aren’t afraid of going to the dentist, with the hope they will grow up to be lifelong dental patients.
SCOPE OF WORK
Because this was a new build, the IDS theming budget was included in the overall construction plan from the start, allowing seamless coordination with the architect and builder. Our concept artists created mood boards and sketches blending safari realism with bright, child-friendly colors. The interior decorator added finishing touches—such as tiled accents on the front desk—to complete the cohesive safari look. The result is a welcoming, unified environment that feels like an adventure from the moment patients walk in.
Exterior:
- Vehicle Wrap – mural wrap and 3D rhino horn
Interior:
- Reception Desk – giraffe, lemurs, and a tree welcome sign
- Kids Area and Theater – safari tent wall murals, window “tent” details, crate benches, gaming tablet in crate tower, 3D lemur “bust out” character, 3D tarzir, 3D elephant and meerkat character photo op
- Treatment Waiting Area – wall mural with caricatures, 2 game tablets housed in sculpted crate towers
- Treatment “On Deck” Area – jeep safari wall mural, 2 gaming tablets in sculpted backpacks, 3D baobab tree
- Post-op and Consultation Area – safari landscape murals and a sculpted tree with a monkey “bust out” through consultation room glass
- Check-out Desk – grass mural wrap
THE OUTCOME
As a pediatric dental specialist, Dr. Russo was able to create an amazing environment throughout her entire practice with Imagination Design Studios (IDS). Her fun safari theme is carried through the entire office, from the reception desk to the waiting area, to the treatment bay and post-op room, creating a fun and immersive experience for patients, parents, and staff alike.
From James Russo – “Everyone comments on it and takes pictures of it. The theming proves that we’re committed to providing a good experience and are detail-oriented. It makes the experience memorable for our patients.”
By having a fully themed office, Dr. Russo is ensuring that her young patients have a positive relationship with the dentist and will continue to come back every six months for regular check-ups.
“It has provided great value, experience, and ambiance for the kids and their parents. Parents claim that their kids ask to go to the ‘animal office’ again so kids definitely have a positive experience with us.”

A lifelong advocate for holistic, equitable care, she’s celebrated for her pioneering spirit.
THE GOAL
PCHS, a multi-location community health center, faced the challenge of rapidly expanding their network of clinics while needing to enhance patient experience and maintain operational consistency. They aimed to create child-friendly environments to alleviate anxiety, ensure a cohesive brand identity across all locations, and transform each facility into a welcoming community hub. Managing these improvements within the constraints of a nonprofit budget added another layer of complexity.
SCOPE OF WORK
IDS worked closely with Dr. Jennifer Kreidler-Moss to match her vision for creative and welcoming family medical clinics. She was especially drawn to unique and unexpected themes. Our designers started by reviewing floor plans and identifying focal points in each space to ensure both patient flow and visual impact. Concept sketches and 3D mockups were presented for review, with the goal of making every visit less intimidating for young patients. Once approved, our team fabricated and installed a series of 3D sculptures and murals—each one built for long-term durability and easy cleaning. Through phased planning and clear communication, IDS was able to keep each site on schedule while maintaining consistency across the network of family and pediatric clinics.

IDS provided comprehensive theming solutions, from custom murals to 3D sculptures, that aligned with PCHS’s vision and budget.
From Dr. Jennifer Kreidler-Moss – “IDS delivered exactly what we wanted. They took our grand ideas and turned them into cohesive themes suitable for our spaces and our budget. We loved customizing the small details and they walked us through the process every step of the way.”
The phased theming strategy proved highly effective for PCHS. By integrating decor planning into their annual budgets, they avoided financial strain and operational downtime.
The newly themed pediatric medical clinics received overwhelmingly positive feedback from patients and parents, with many noting the welcoming and comforting environments.
Staff morale significantly improved, as the engaging decor fostered a more enjoyable work atmosphere.
Community awareness and brand recognition also soared, thanks to a steady stream of marketing opportunities. Each new themed installation became a fresh story to share through press releases, social media campaigns, and internal celebrations, reinforcing PCHS’s commitment to patient care and community engagement.
“Healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and we strive to make our clinics welcoming for everyone, especially kids.”

THE OUTCOME
The Super Dentists decided to reinvent the pediatric dental experience by introducing mascots, themed decor, and immersive environments.
From Dr. Kami Hoss – “We decided to reinvent and transform the dental experience by changing everything people hate about the dentist. We’ve done this with delivering the highest quality of care in a super fun way.”
This innovative approach included creating themed environments with engaging visuals and interactive elements that made children look forward to their dental visits.
“All dentists are competing for the same thing, which is to have the latest technology, the nicest people, and friendliest environment, but the reality is people hate to go to the dentist. We create an experience that kids really want and enjoy so parents keep bringing them back.”
“If you look at Disneyland, people establish emotional attachments to the characters, the stories, the movies, and the fantasy that their environments create. We set out to offer that same experience – characters, movies, books and theming. Once children decide they love going to the dentist, they want to take care of their mouths.”
The transformation brought impressive results for The Super Dentists. They achieved a 20% increase in patient growth and now serve one in every five children in San Diego County as ‘Super Dentists kids.’ The company also saw its annual revenue soar to $75M, with an employee count growing to 102.
“It’s incredibly rewarding and humbling to see kids and parents running into our practices, laughing, playing, taking photos with our characters, and wanting our autographs.”
