UNDERSEA THEMED HOSPITAL

A children’s hospital should feel welcoming, reassuring, and thoughtfully designed for young patients and their families. For this hospital ward, IDS created a continuous underwater silhouette-style mural system that brings a sense of calm and discovery throughout the clinical environment.

Layers of coral, sea plants, fish, rays, turtles, and other marine life flow through the hallways in a soothing palette of blues and teals. The tone-on-tone artwork adds depth and visual interest without making the busy healthcare space feel overwhelming.

The underwater theme continues beyond the walls, wrapping around cabinetry, the nurses’ station, and an overhead circular feature. Carrying the same visual story across multiple surfaces helped unite the ward and turn a series of clinical corridors and work areas into one cohesive environment.

By using cool colors, gentle movement, and familiar ocean animals, the murals create engaging details for children to notice as they move through the ward while maintaining a calm, professional atmosphere for patients, families, and hospital staff.
